Tomorrow, September 21, marks the International Day of Peace and World Alzheimer’s Day. Although not typically connected, both peace and Alzheimer’s disease deeply touch the lives of many Canadians. In fact, many of us are grappling with the complexities of both! This year, there is a way for you to mark both these important days at once.
To celebrate and support both occasions, the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (CPA) has partnered with Marlena Books to put forth an exhibit titled, Painting a Picture of Dignity. Marlena Books is a local start-up providing meaningful leisure and cognitive stimulation in the form of reading to those with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other cognitive disorders. Marlena Books has been a part of the CPA’s Epp Peace Incubator program since 2016.
Located in the Grebel Gallery at Conrad Grebel University College, Painting a Picture of Dignity explores the theme of dignity from the lens of people who are experiencing Alzheimer's and dementia. Community members are welcome to come explore the intersection of peace and Alzheimer’s awareness through attending the exhibit launch reception at 4 PM on September 21.
The Grebel Gallery’s exhibit launch reception is one part of a larger initiative known as Peace Week, a week-long celebration of the International Day of Peace in the KW community. Learn more about the variety of peace-related events that are happening across the region.
