Sharmin is a transdisciplinary researcher who holds a Ph.D. in Social and Ecological Sustainability – Water from the University of Waterloo, specializing in climate migration. Her research centers on human dimensions of climate change, covering vulnerability, risk assessments, adaptation, resilience, managed retreat, economics, and sustainable finance. Sharmin’s prior work involved water security projects with Water Economics Research Group (WERG) and the Water Institute. She received multiple awards, including the Queen Elizabeth Advanced Scholar for 2018-2020, recognition as one of 20 Young Women Leaders for Planetary Health in 2020, Ontario Graduate Scholarship – International Award and UW President Graduate Scholarship for 2022-2023. Within the CRRG, she investigates climate change’s impact on critical infrastructure (CI) and resilience-strengthening policies in Canada and other developed nations.
