The candidates and their statements are below:
Aishwarya Ramanathan, 1st year Masters:
Hi! My name is Aishwarya (or Ash) and I would like to be your CS GSA President for the next year. I would love to create an environment that positively contributes to everyone's graduate school experience. Previously, I have been a part of my former institution's Mathematics and Computer Science Society where we worked to basically do the exact same thing that the CS GSA strives to provide. I had a great time working in MCSS and I would like the opportunity to use my experience, here. All in all, I think we could have a fun year with a wide variety of events. Feel free to check out my github (https://github.com/aishr) and personal website (https://aishr.github.io/) and come talk to me about anything you see on there!
Micheal Friesen, 1st year Masters:
There are a few reasons I hope to become president of the CS GSA. For one, I enjoy bringing people together and I would love to help foster the diverse communities within our graduate CS department. Self-organized clubs could be a great way to explore this concept and perhaps highlight some of the wide variety of interests among us. I would also love to create a casual platform for students to learn from each other's research and knowledge through informal seminar discussions. This would give all of us more presentation practice, as well as an opportunity for me to preach to you about the beauty of Vim. Overall my top priority as president will be to listen to my fellow graduate students to ensure everyone is heard and can find community at this wonderful institution. Please send me any suggestions or questions you might have at micheal.friesen@uwaterloo.ca. Thank you.
