The fall issue of the Waterloo Magazine is now available! The theme of this issue is The New Entrepreneur - celebrating how today’s entrepreneurs are designing new solutions to bring about positive environmental and social change.
You’ll discover many innovators and changemakers who are creating lasting and positive change. From developing radical new housing models to improving the lives of individuals with dementia, Waterloo entrepreneurs are creating solutions to some of the most pressing challenges we face as a society.
The Waterloo Magazine is produced by a team of people from across the University – led by University Relations in collaboration with the Office of Advancement. The stories, illustrations and photography in each edition exemplify the ongoing impact of our Waterloo alumni, researchers, students and staff.
We must stand against hate - a message from President and Vice-Chancellor Vivek Goel.
A radical response to the housing crisis - entrepreneur Sean Campbell (MES ’16, PhD in progress) is creating a new model for affordable housing.
Green Care Farms takes root - Rebekah Churchyard (BA ’13, BSW ’14) has launched Canada’s first care farm for people with living with dementia.
The mushroom startup with the power to heal - Indigenous entrepreneur Evan Vandermeer (BSc in progress) is using his mushroom-supplements business to start a dialogue for a positive future.
When there is no 9-1-1 - Emergency Response Africa, founded by Folake Owodunni (MBET ’21), is connecting people experiencing medical emergencies to the care they need.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
