What does the Daily Bulletin publish?
The Daily Bulletin provides interesting news to the University community, keeping audiences in the know about initiatives, events, announcements, and other important information about what’s happening around campus.
General categories

This includes new articles or amplification of articles already published on other Waterloo web pages (e.g. Waterloo News)

When and Where listings to feature upcoming events

Not included in the Daily Bulletin

Long texts reproduced word-for-word (though excerpts and quotes that retain the flavour of the original may be posted)

Announcements that will only be of interest to a few people

Community events, unless there is a significant and tangible connection to the University (via sponsorship, partnership, or other collaboration)
General guidelines and how to submit
Submission timelines

For article submissions, please submit one week in advance of your desired publication date. The Daily Bulletin editorial calendar is set weekly by Friday of the previous week, so if you'd like an article to run the following week, please submit content through the intake form on Friday by noon.

If you need writing or editing editing services, please submit your article request two weeks before the desired publication date. This provides adequate time for the development, review, and approval of content

When and Where postings are collected on a weekly basis. If you'd like something posted in the following week's Daily Bulletin, please ensure you submit before the end of the previous week, on Friday by noon.

If your request is urgent (e.g. outside this timeline for submissions), please indicate that in the appropriate request form
Articles
Articles can be submitted through the Daily Bulletin intake form.

Articles written by members of the community:

Feature articles should be between 250 – 500 words maximum; anything smaller will be included in a compendium of notes

If you would like the article to have a byline, please ensure that the author’s name is included in the article submission so proper credit can be given

Where relevant, please include a link to the original content
Photography:

A minimum of one image (and a maximum of 3) is required for each feature article

Landscape photos are required for headline photos (main article image) and portrait style for in set photos

Use Waterloo photos, or submit an original photo

We accept png, gif, and jpg (jpeg)

Photos should be a maximum size of 1500 pixels wide

Photos used in the body of an article may be resized

Photos are most useful if they are accompanied by a short text, to be used as a cutline, that describes the photo. The cutline should double as alt text.

Please include the photographer’s name if and where applicable
Article amplification:

In most cases, an excerpt of the previously published material will be included with a link back to the source for further reading.

Please ensure that the original author’s name is included in the submission so proper credit can be given.
When and Where listings
When and where listings can be submitted through the Daily Bulletin When and Where intake form.
The primary place to announce activities (meetings, lectures, performances) happening at the University is through the Waterloo Events calendar. The Daily Bulletin can also amplify campus events.
We require the following information: event name, day of the week, month, date, time, and location. Include a link where relevant.
PhD oral defences
PhD oral defence listings can be submitted through the Daily Bulletin PhD oral defences intake form.
The Daily Bulletin posts oral defence announcements on the first and third Monday of the month. Please submit your requests on Friday of the previous week before noon.
