Engineering to host remembrance ceremony on December 6

Memorial candles.

Canada changed forever on December 6, 1989, when 14 women were murdered in a gender-based act of violence at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal.

To honour those women, the Faculty of Engineering will host a ceremony followed by a moment of silence observing Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on Wednesday, December 6.

We encourage everyone to come together with Engineering as a way to remember, reflect and respond while honouring those 14 women and everyone whose lives were forever changed by this tragic event.

The remembrance ceremony takes place Wednesday, December 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Engineering 7's second-floor event space.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Please register online.

A message from the Office of the Vice-President, Research and International.

Are you planning to attend What is GBA+ Anyways? (Virtual) on December 11?

The webinar is facilitated by Adrianna Tassone MA, Research Equity Advisor. Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) is an important tool for embedding equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in every stage of research from design to sharing results and other outputs. But what is it, and how is it done? This presentation will go over the basics of GBA+ including examples that highlight its usefulness, steps researchers can take, and questions they can ask themselves to start the GBA+ analysis of their research.

The presentation will take place on Monday, December 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Please register to receive the Zoom link to participate.

Inclusive Research Resource Hub feature

The Hub is a resource library of important documents focused on EDI to support the UWaterloo community as they integrate EDI into their research designs and teams. The Hub was created as part of the Inclusive Research Team’s commitment to ongoing development and capacity building to support equitable and inclusive research practices.

This month’s feature is a Culturally Relevant Gender-Based Analysis Starter Kit that explores the impact of histories and current issues faced by Indigenous women and how this perspective is one way of minimizing harm. We hope this resource can offer insights into how you consider and incorporate gender-based analysis into your research.
