Scoot into Spring with the Neuron e-scooters

A message from the Sustainability Office.
The University of Waterloo is excited to announce the return of the Neuron Mobility e-bike and e-scootershare program, beginning the week of April 1. This program is part of a region-wide initiative, supporting sustainable transportation options between the campus and broader community.
E-bike and e-scooter rentals are managed through the Neuron app. Pick-up and drop-off hubs will be located around Ring Road, BMH, CIF, CLV, CPH, DC, EC1, REV, SCH, STC, UWP, and V1. Public stations are also available to users near the Kitchener and Cambridge campuses.
Please note: To prioritize pedestrian safety, bikes and scooters will be confined to around Ring Road and select trails on the perimeter of campus. Students and employees will not be able to ride the bikes and scooters through University pathways or parking lots. Please wear a helmet when utilizing the e-scooters and e-bikes.

Register for the Safeguarding Science workshops

A message from the Research Security Centre.
The Research Security Centre is hosting two new safeguarding science webinars in May 2025.
The webinars are intended for, but not limited to, researchers, research staff including technicians, postdoctoral fellows and students, research security professionals, research administrators, information technology and information management staff, security personnel, biosafety and radiological safety officers, human resources personnel, supply chain personnel and senior management.
Module 6: Travelling Safely: Protecting Your Research While Travelling Abroad
This module will provide a global overview of the threat environment when travelling, a summary of techniques used by foreign governments to gain advantage of your research, and best practices to follow before, during, and after your trip.

Module 7: Conducting Open-Source Due-Diligence
This module provides an overview of open-source due-diligence techniques for researchers to use when evaluating the risks related to their potential partners. The outcome of this module will enhance researchers’ ability to find relevant information using open-source methods.

No foolin' with April's first batch of notes

"Registration is now open for Rock Your Thesis 2: Starting to Write," says a note from the Writing and Communication Centre (WCC).
"Balancing talks from support staff across campus with hands-on activities, we guide you through planning, drafting, and revising your thesis or dissertation. This session is great for grad students who are starting their research and writing process, such as with a literature review."
Register on Portal. The event takes place on Wednesday, April 16 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Additionally, the WCC reports that IBPOC Student Writing Cafés have moved to EC5 room 2303.
"The IBPOC Student Writing Cafés are spaces where Indigenous, Black, and graduate students of colour can come together to form supportive communities of writers," says a note from the WCC. "Structured by timed writing spurts and breaks, these groups make space for concerns specific to IBPOC writers."
The student writing cafés take place every Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in EC5 2303 (the EDI-R office).

Tonight, the Velocity $25K pitch competition makes its return at the All-Stars event. "Join us for the Velocity Pitch Competition, where elite emerging founders from the University of Waterloo ecosystem showcase their transformative ventures," says the Velocity invitation. "New for 2025, this special event brings together exceptional current and past Waterloo founders for an exhilarating showcase of innovation and entrepreneurial talent."
The event takes place at 7:00 p.m. in the Theatre of the Arts. Register to attend.

Sustainable Transportation will be closed today from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for a staff meeting.
The Office of the Ombudsperson will be closed from Tuesday, March 25 to Wednesday, April 2.
