Register now for AI Discovery Day on October 14

Faculty and staff are invited to register for the University of Waterloo’s next AI Discovery Day, taking place Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Science Teaching Complex.
AI Discovery Day brings together people from across Waterloo to share practical experiences, explore emerging ideas, and learn how artificial intelligence is being used responsibly in teaching, research, and administrative work.
The event is open to everyone, from those beginning to explore AI to those already developing, applying, studying, or supporting AI-enabled solutions. No previous AI experience is required.
Help shape the program
This year’s program will be shaped by contributions from faculty and staff across the University. We are looking for practical use cases, emerging projects, experiments, demonstrations, lessons learned, and perspectives on the opportunities and challenges associated with AI.
When registering, you can:
- suggest a topic or question you would like the event to explore;
- share an AI project, experiment, or idea
- express interest in giving a short lightning talk or demonstration
- indicate your interest in contributing to another type of session.
You do not need to be an AI expert or have a completed project to contribute. The organizing committee will review submissions and work with contributors to determine the most appropriate format.
The program is expected to include short presentations, demonstrations, community showcases, and shared question-and-answer discussions with presenters. Additional program details will be announced closer to the event. Lunch will be provided. Please identify any dietary requirements when registering.
Register now for AI Discovery Day. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
AI Discovery Day is organized by an interdisciplinary team representing Information Systems and Technology, faculties, the Library, and administrative units across campus. For more information about artificial intelligence at Waterloo, visit the Generative AI website.
Volunteers needed for fall move-in

A message from Campus Housing.
Now that we’ve confirmed our incoming first-year class for September 2026, Campus Housing is turning its focus to fall move-in. We’re seeking enthusiastic staff, faculty, students, and alumni to help welcome our newest students to their home on campus.
With over 600 volunteer shifts to fill, your support will play an important role in creating a warm and memorable first experience for our incoming students.
Move-in volunteer details
- Campus Housing move-in will take place between Thursday, September 3 and Sunday, September 6.
- Volunteer for a few hours or as many shifts as you’d like!
- View roles and shifts on the volunteer sign-up form.
- Tip: You'll first need to click "register" if you don’t have an existing Vome account
- Questions can be directed to movein@uwaterloo.ca.
Highlights for volunteers
If you sign up as a general volunteer, when you arrive for your shift you can let the team lead know how you are most comfortable supporting the event. Ways to support move-in range from helping students navigate campus, to welcoming students and families in parking lots, to supporting students with their belongings.
Don’t want to volunteer alone? Sign up with a friend or even a group as a team-building activity.
Campus Housing staff will be in all move-in locations to ensure all volunteers are supported throughout their shifts.
How grassroots soccer brings people together in Canada beyond the spectacle of the World Cup

A ball, an open field and a group of players can create a space where strangers become teammates, and over time, a community.
By Amir Al Azraki for The Conversation
Grassroots soccer is easy to overlook. It unfolds in public parks, on unbooked fields and is organized through WhatsApp groups rather than formal institutions. Yet in cities like Guelph, Ont., these gatherings are doing important social work: creating connection, trust and belonging across differences — ones that are often difficult to bridge elsewhere.
As Canada celebrates its self-image as a multicultural society after hosting the World Cup, questions remain about what meaningful integration looks like in everyday life.
