Presidential Nominating Committee seeks members

"Feridun Hamdullahpur’s initial term as president expires 30 June 2017," says a note from the Secretariat & Office of General Counsel. "He has indicated to the Chair of the Board of Governors that he is interested in appointment to a second term."

As required by Policy 50 – The President of the University, the Secretariat & Office of General Counsel is preparing to constitute the Presidential Nominating Committee.

Nominations are requested for the following seats on the nominating committee:

• One senator of professorial rank from each Faculty, elected by a vote within that Faculty – nomination form
• Two regular faculty members, elected from and by the faculty-at-large of the University – nomination form
• One staff member elected from and by the regular ongoing staff of the University – nomination form

Completed nomination forms (at least three nominators are required in each case) should be submitted to the Chief Returning Officer, Secretariat & Office of General Counsel, Needles Hall, Room 3060, no later than 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21. Elections will follow in early January if necessary.

Happy Holidays from the Keystone Campaign

The folks at the Keystone have a special message to all Waterloo donors: faculty, staff and retirees. "At this wonderful time of year, we say simply but sincerely, best wishes for a peaceful and restorative holiday season!" says a statement from the campaign. "All the very best for a Happy New Year to our Keystone Family."

Remembering Nick Cercone

The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science is deeply saddened to share the passing of former Chair, Nicholas Cercone. Professor Cercone passed peacefully with his wife by his side, members of the School were told in a letter from York University's Dean of the Lassonde School of Engineering Janusz Kozinski. He was 68 years old.

"Nick was Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Waterloo from 1997-2002, a time of much growth and excitement," said Cheriton School Director Mark Giesbrecht. "He hired many faculty and staff members who are here today, myself included, and had an enormous influence on the shape of our School."

Friends and colleagues are invited to share their thoughts and memories of Professor Cercone via e-mail to Eddy Evans, Director of External Relations at York University where he was a professor and former Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Thoughts will be shared on the Lassonde School of Engineering website.
