Dr. Bergsieker won the 2019 Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Women of the Year Award in the STEAM category, recognizing excellence in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. The awards committee noted that "She is not only a scientist herself, but she uses her scientific work to increase the success and participation of other women in science. Hilary and her research team are helping to make adolescent girls feel welcome in science classes and careers, and creating evidence-based workshops on leadership and inclusion that increase equity for women working in science fields." In her acceptance speech, Dr. Bergsieker highlighted the pivotal role of our local community in making her research possible, whether by full-time STEM professionals personally participating or by parents encouraging their children at STEM camps to be a part of our research project. Thank you, KW community!
