2. Lorrain quartzite

The Lorrain quartzite is a metamorphic rock formed from the sedimentary rock sandstone. The quartz sand grains were cemented together by heat and pressure. Lorrain quartzite forms the attractive white hills from Killarney Provincial Park west to Whitefish Falls. Lorrain quartzite is mined on Badgely Island in Georgian Bay for glass making and a flux in metal smelting.
