34. Magnetite skarn

Magnetite, metamorphic rock, Marmoraton Mine, Ontario. The name is derived from Magnesia, a region in ancient Macedonia. This was an ore deposits for Bethlehem Steel Corporation. The deposits was found by geophysics. The deposit was recognized by the way the magnetite deflected a magnetometer which measures Earth's magnetic field. Layers of Paleozoic limestone had to be removed to expose the ore.
