John Johnston
John Johnston is a professor at the University of Waterloo where he teaches hundreds of students in undergraduate Earth and Environmental Sciences lecture, lab and field courses each year. In his research, he aims to identify natural patterns and trends involving sediment, lake water levels, and climate to help predict future scenarios for some of the largest freshwater resources on Earth.

John Johnston completed his PhD at Indiana University in 2004, before returning to the University of Waterloo, where he completed his Masters.

Professor Johnston is currently a leader in two large, multidisciplinary research groups focused on the Mackenzie and Laurentian Great Lakes. In addition to being a member of the Earth Sciences Museum board, he is affiliated with The Water Institute, the Geological Association of Canada, and the Great Lakes Research Consortium.
