About World Wetlands Day
World Wetlands Day (WWD) is celebrated each year on February 2nd, which marks the day when the Convention on Wetlands was adopted in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran. The Convention is an international government agreement acknowledging the importance of wetlands and plays a central role in the wise use and conservation of these critical ecosystems. "Should we care about freshwater salinization?"
Hilary Dugan is an associate professor at the Center for Limnology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. As a limnologist, Hilary studies how terrestrial and atmospheric changes, such as warming air temperatures or land use patterns, alter biogeochemical fluxes and aquatic processes in inland waters. Her research balances field-based programs, which rely heavily on sensor networks, with the use and development of analytical models, and the application of geospatial tools. Her research focus is on north-temperate and polar ecosystems, with research sites spanning from the Midwest to Antarctica.
