New research article examines the state of microplastic pollution data availability

Wednesday, July 13, 2022

A new research article titled “Current State of Microplastic Pollution Research Data: Trends in Availability and Sources of Open Data” authored by ERG undergraduate co-op student Tia Jenkins has been published. The article published in Frontiers in Environmental Science investigated the findability and accessibility of research data within the microplastics community. The results showed evidence that data sharing practices are increasing, however, some challenges still need to be addressed relating to data management practices and openness to ensure the long-term availability and accessibility of data. Co-authors include Bhaleka Persaud, Stephanie Slowinski, Benjamin Lei, Rodney Smith, John Honek, Fereidoun Rezanezhad, and Philippe Van Cappellen. Additional details about the article are available in the Microplastics Fingerprinting Research Project’s newsletter and the full article can be access here.
