William Woodworth, PhD
It is with great sadness that we share that the Faculty of Engineering’s Elder in Residence, William (Bill) Woodworth, passed away in June 2025. Bill was a member of the Lower Mohawk Kanien'kehá:ka Nation of Six Nations of the Grand River in the Bear Clan. Adopted into the Deer Clan of the Cayuga Nation he was given the name Raweno:kwas, "he dips the words". In his work in both Architecture and Engineering he shared his love for his Haudenosaunee culture and the teachings of Chief Jacob Ezra Thomas, the beauty of Architecture, and the importance of coming into good relation with the natural world.
In this period of transition Indigenous Students, Faculty, and Staff looking for cultural support are advised to reach out to the Office of Indigenous Relations.
