Menstrual Equity

FAQ

Q: What is menstrual equity?

A: Menstrual equity covers various topics such as having equal access to hygiene products, advancing laws and policies to ensure safe, environmentally healthy menstrual products, education about reproductive health and destigmatization, and more.

Q: Why are there no menstrual products in the Faculty of Engineering washrooms?

A: Ideally, menstrual products would be available in all of our washrooms for those who need them. This is currently not our reality, and the systems to make it a reality are not in place. We have over 100 washrooms spread across all of our Engineering buildings, which are not equipped to have menstrual products. The Equity Diversity & Inclusion Engineering department has seen the need and heard the concern from those in the University of Waterloo community. As a temporary measure, while larger conversations happen on a campus-wide level, we have stocked specific locations with free menstrual products that are secured and can be safely accessed by those who need them.

Q: Where can I find free menstrual products in the Faculty of Engineering department buildings?

A: Visit our webpage of on-campus locations provided by the Engineering EDI team. For a list of washrooms providing menstrual products through the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism and Plant Ops, visit their webpage

Q: Who can I contact if I would like to provide free menstrual products on-campus?

A: If you would like to provide free menstrual products, please email the EDI Engineering department at eng.edi@uwaterloo.ca
