Student Pronouns in Quest

Beginning June 12, current students – undergraduate and graduate – will be able to select their pronouns in Quest. Should they make this optional choice to share their pronoun(s), their selection will immediately be visible to you on your class roster.

As there is no mechanism in Quest to automatically notify you of updates in pronoun information, we strongly encourage you to re-download your class roster at regular intervals. This will ensure you have access to the most up-to-date information and are addressing students by the correct pronouns.

However, we know, and will be communicating with students, that there may be a delay between when they change their pronoun information and when you see that change – depending on when you regularly refresh your class roster.

Currently, pronoun selection is only available in Quest. The University is working to provide pronoun data to other systems across campus (e.g., LEARN), to support the use of pronouns across all platforms. As integrations are built and pronouns are shared more broadly, further communications will be shared.

For questions about pronoun usage, review the information provided on the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism office website
