This searchable catalog lists all the available tools in the Environment Makerspace. 

  • A 1" vertical sander can be used for smaller sanding needs.

  • The 3D printer is an additive layer manufacturing technology; specifically, fused deposition modelling (FDM). As the print head moves, the ABS filament feeds through the heated extruder and deposits on the platform in the desired shape for the layer.

  • Is able to scan objects and create 3D models out of the scans.

  • A tool that heats up to bend acrylic into different shapes.

  • An air compressor can be used for providing air for the brad and pin nailers. It is also used to clean off and dust or saw dust when sanding or cutting wood.

  • Allan wrenches have similar uses as screwdrivers and are used to tighten or loosen screws. Allan wrenchs are light and compact and versatile.

  • An angle grinder can be used to grind, polish and cut materials. They can be used on wood, metals, plastics and much more!

  • Thread metal pieces that are used to hold objects together, can be loosened or tightened.

  • This hammer is useful for driving small screws and shaping metal.

  • The band saw is a very versatile cutting device; it can make both straight and curved cuts. Blades come in various widths, allowing the saw to cut fairly small arcs. The size of the work piece is limited by the distance between the body of the saw and the saw blade.

  • A bar clamp is a 1in or 1/2in diameter pipe that has a clamp that slides to hold objects in place. Typically, it is used to glue objects together.

  • The belt sander is a powerful tool that can be used to smooth the surface and to ensure that your wood has a finished appearance.

  • The drill press allows the operator to consistently drill straight, true holes in wood. It can be used to drill through or, with a stop, to drill “blind” holes.

  • Biscuit joiners are used to joining pieces of wood together, they can be used to carve groves and much more!

  • A block plane is used to shave and shape wood materials so that they have a clean finish. They can also be used for removing glue lines off of wood pieces.

  • This glass score cutter creates a shallow cut on a glass surface. The scored pieces can then be separated.

  • These pliers are useful to use on scratch sensitive materials and are used to break apart materials like glass.

  • Laminate trimmers are smaller versions of the router tool. They are used for finishing trim, cutting and doing design work. 

  • The BOSS LS-2436 laser cutter emits a powerful 100W CO2 laser, and it has a work area of 900x600 mm with an adjustable Z-table of up to 180 mm. The laser cutter can cut or engrave various materials.

  • The mitre saw is specifically designed for cross-cutting board lumber and can be rotated for mitre cutting up to 45 degrees off perpendicular in both directions. It proves to be one of the most useful stationary power tools in the workshop, since accurate cuts are essential for proper fit and construction. 

  • Moisture meters are used for woodworking when users are trying to find out the water content of their wood.

  • The multi-tool is a compact handheld tool that is able to cut, sand, polish, engrave all kinds of materials.

  • These pliers are used to bend, cut and hold materials.

  • The 23-ga. pin nailer is used to temporarily secure objects together. Compared to the brad nailer, a pin nailer has weaker holding strength.

  • The mitre saw is specifically designed for cross-cutting board lumber and can be rotated for mitre cutting up to 45 degrees off perpendicular in both directions. The portable model is easy to move and use in various work areas.

  • Sheet metal clips are used to cut sheet metal and are available in a variety of sizes at the  Environment Makerspace.

  • Sheet sanders are used for sanding materials. Typically, they are used for sanding projects at the end as a final sand.

  • Spade bits are used to make rough holes in wood, their shape allows for quick drilling.

  • This is a handy tool used to sand inside curves and special shapes. There are a variety of different sized drums from ¼” to 4” diameter to suit various shapes.

  • Used to drive heavy-duty staples through metal, wood and plastics.

  • Step drill bits are used to drill holes in plastics and thin metal. Their shape allows for clean cuts compared to other drill bits.

  • The thickness planer is used to trim wood down to a uniform thickness throughout a surface.

  • A try square consists of one measuring arm and an adjustable arm that connect at a 90-degree angle. They are used for measuring and marking accurate lines.

  • The vacuum uses suction to clean up work areas, it can be used to clean up saw dust, debris and much more.

  • These are useful for truing the ends of lumber, chamfering, making rough surfaces flat, etc. The vertical belt sander can be used more aggressively because the work is supported by the table. 

  • The panel saw is ideal for cutting sheet lumber. It can be used to make large sheets manageable for cutting on the table saw. In addition, heavy sheet lumber cut on the table saw usually requires the aid of an assistant and/or a work support. The panel saw can cross-cut sheet lumber and can be used for ripping.
