Take the Mic
Hear your voice like never before.
Take the Mic is an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to gain hands-on experience in a professional podcasting environment. Designed for those without access to recording equipment or training, these 30-minute sessions let participants hear their voice with the same audio quality found on professional platforms like Spotify or CBC Radio.
Participants can join alone, with a partner, or in groups of three. During each session, a facilitator guides participants through a recorded conversation while introducing fundamental podcasting concepts, including mixer operation, basic audio editing, and software essentials. Participants can experiment with sound effects and hear themselves in real time using professional-grade equipment.
The primary goal is amplifying voices: giving members of the UWaterloo community—especially students and staff who may not often experience their voice as authoritative or platform-worthy—the affirming experience of hearing themselves as legitimate media creators. Participants may keep their recording or simply enjoy the experience of sounding like they belong on the airwaves.
Sessions are facilitated by the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Anti-Racism and can be booked here.
