(1909) - The Social Basis of a Woman Question - Alexandra Kollontai

Alexandra Kollontai, a Russian socialist, played a major role in movements regarding working-class rights, particularly of women. In this pamphlet she goes on to talk about the ongoing subordination of women and the lack of social democracy. She states that feminists are seeking equality within society, not as a means of tearing down societal structures, rather hoping to make space for themselves as women. It is important to mention that Kollontai specifically advocated for the proletariat women. As they were often the ones subjected to the class differences. The power which the working class holds is important, and she uses that to her advantage by empowering women to work and build space in an outdated world. This was done to show solidarity with one another which is in contrast to the bourgeois women and their intent to simply secure their own welfare within the inherently disproportionate society.

A woman can possess equal rights and be truly free only in a world of socialised labour, of harmony and justice.
