(1922) - Report on the Negro Question - Claude McKay
In his speech, the Report on the Negro Question, Claude McKay was dealing with the problem of racial oppression and the marginalization of Black people within both the capitalist system and the global revolutionary movement. He addressed the racial and class struggles facing Black people, particularly in the U.S. South, emphasizing how the capitalist system exploits Black labour while dividing workers along racial lines to maintain control. He argued that the international working-class movement, particularly the Third International, needed to fully recognize the "black people question" and include Black workers in the fight for global emancipation, calling for solidarity and support for Black liberation in the context of the global struggle against imperialism and capitalist oppression.
The Negro race in the economic life of the world today occupies a very peculiar position. In every country where the Whites and Blacks must work together the capitalists have set the one against the other.
