(1946) - The Negro People are Aroused - Claudia Jones
In this news clipping, Jones questions the political systems in place and the hypocrisy of their words and actions. The post-World War II (WWII) era had left many Black Americans with great mistrust, due to constant disrespect and societal oppression. This was particularly confounding, as Black Americans had fought in WWII in part, hoping that their participation would have alluded to their desire for shared democracy. Due to the lack of societal grounding, change was needed. Jones breakdowns examples of violence against Black Americans, with the aim of uniting them towards the same cause, seeking answers to their oppression and systemic change.
Above all, it is evident that the Negro people are seeking fundamental answers to their oppression, and that there is a growing sense of pessimism and cynicism.
