(1979) - Address to the 34th General Assembly of the United Nations - Maurice Bishop

Bishop presented himself before the United Nations at the turn of the Grenadian revolution. This was shortly after the departure of the previous Grenadian fascist and imperialist government. He goes on to mention his own revolutionary party, the New Jewel Movement, and the desire to firmly establish peoples' rights and to denounce imperialism. He brings in many other countries, such as Palestine, Cuba, Western Sahara, Panama, the Caribbeans, and reaffirms his position of standing with the oppressed. Additionally, he argues that instead of allocating large monetary sums towards war crimes, it would be more beneficial to redirect those funds to aid the people. Bishop was an advocate of social justice, particularly when it came to his country Grenada.

Indeed, our Revolution in Grenada is a people's Revolution and as such one of the fundamental principles of our Revolution is the establishment of the people's rights.
