(1980) - The Contemporary Crisis of the Third Worlds - Eqbal Ahmad

This is a part of a series of essays on post-colonial societies written by Eqbal Ahmad. This one outlines arguments in regard to pre-capitalist societies, and how, although they were not structured in the same manner as today, they were not devoid of conflict and change. The increase of technology and historical knowledge further exacerbated injustices, a contemporary crisis. Traditional societies have diminished due to colonial uprisings, resulting in such powers weakening. Even though societies are structurally old, there is an inextricable link to the modern world. With this though, comes unique perspectives, none of which by any means are hopeless.

Those societies which, due to the strength of vested local or foreign interests, reject the radical democratic option may live with the challenge a while longer, at a high cost to the common people, and ultimately to face an explosion of much greater intensity
