(1998) - What is White Supremacy? - Elizabeth Martínez

Martínez states that white supremacy is fundamental to the existence of America. She breaks down colonization, through conversations around Indigenous peoples, followed by the enslavement of African labour. Furthermore, Martínez describes the United States, and their invasion of parts of Mexico, and the entirety of the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Cuba. As such, the imperialistic history of America has further developed the notion of what white supremacy is and how racism is a systemic issue.

The most common mistake people make when they talk about racism is to think it is a collection of prejudices and individual acts of discrimination. They do not see that it is a system, a web of interlocking, reinforcing institutions: economic, military, legal, educational, religious, and cultural.
