(2014) - Biography - Bashir Hadj Ali
Bachir Hadj Ali was a great Algerian poet, Andalusian music enthusiast, and political activist. Ali grew up learning both secular and Islamic studies, but eventually had to leave school during his teenage years to support his family. In his early 20s, he was introduced to various leftist political ideologies. Through this, he became politically involved within the PCA, commencing his long journey ahead of engaging in anti-capitalist work for his people. Ali dreamt of a socialist future for Algeria whilst ensuring the continuity of the culture. This didn’t come without trouble though, as Ali was jailed multiple times, heavily tortured, and even out on house arrest. But none of this stopped him from pursuing a better tomorrow, all for the people of Algeria.
What is unique to Bachir Hadj-Ali is his ability to combine different sources within a patriotism that emphasizes the continuity of the Algerian people.
