(2014) - We Should all be Feminists - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Adichie talks about her experiences growing up, and what defines a feminist. Adichie speaks to her Nigerian culture, particularly the process of holding women to subordination in comparison to men, due to their cultural beliefs around gender. Adichie goes through her experiences as a woman and the things which people would say to her, particularly when talking about social norms and experiences she went through. Additionally, she talks about simultaneously holding anger and being unapologetic, and not conforming to social norms around her. The lessons of "likeability" are often taught to girls, but not necessarily teaching boys the same lessons. Adichie calls for a change to what masculinity means, and to challenge traditional gender norms.

Some men feel threatened by the idea of feminism. This comes, I think, from the insecurity triggered by how boys are brought up, how their sense of self-worth is diminished if they are not 'naturally' in charge as men.
