Adichie, an acclaimed feminist author, wrote a letter to her friend who had asked for advice on how to raise a feminist daughter. From that letter came this book, where Adichie goes through different experiences, taking from her own life and Nigerian culture, and combining it into 15 suggestions. Throughout her advice, she reminds her friend that above all, even if she may try her best in raising her daughter a certain way, life may redirect the path to something completely different. Ultimately, what matters is that the mother simply tried her best.
Teach her to question language. Language is the repository of our prejudices, our beliefs, our assumptions. But to teach her that, you will have to question your own language.
