(2022) - Absinthe Volume 28: Orphaned of Light - Saadi Youssef
Saadi Youssef was a prominent Iraqi poet, political activist, and publisher. He lived much of his latter life exiled from Iraq due to conflicting political ideologies with the government regime. Much of Youssef's poetry is in regard to displacement, personal experiences, and political struggles. This specific collection of poems is translated by Khaled Mattawa from Absinthe 28: Orphaned of Light, a compilation of different authors' works in both Arabic and English. The book itself is composed of topics related to internal displacement, exile, refugee hood, life in the diaspora, among many other experiences.

or even try to swim there.
But, to be honest, I am tired of longing
and remembrance.
Nostagia is no longer my song.
