(2024) - The Knowing - Tanya Talaga
Talaga, an Anishinaabe and Polish descent journalist and author, writes about her conversations surrounding the Canadian history of colonization upon Indigenous peoples. Talaga establishes that systems were built and operate against Indigenous peoples; historically demonstrated through residential schools. The painful endurance inflicted on Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island are something she goes on to discuss, bringing forward the weight that came with the discovery of the 215 children found in 2021 at the Kamloops Residential School. She brings in a personal touch by surrounding conversations around her family's direct and indirect experiences, and the development of distrust overtime through government exploitation.
Genocide is impossible to retell. The connections between generations are fractured. It leaves us as intimate strangers, looking for the names and faces of those we’ve lost.
