This introductory workshop is designed to give staff, students, and faculty a broad understanding of equity and how our interactions with one another are shaped by systems of oppression, power, and privilege. During our discussion, we will explore the ways in which inequities, biases, and microaggressions affect our lives as individuals and communities.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- understand the broader post-secondary and societal contexts for equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)
- define and distinguish between key concepts, including equity, diversity, inclusion, privilege, and bias
- identify and discuss individual, interpersonal, institutional, and systemic barriers for equity-seeking groups, such as women, racialized people, Indigenous peoples
This workshop is open to all students, staff, and faculty of the University of Waterloo.
