Oliver Schneider leads the Haptic Computing Lab as an Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo (Faculty of Engineering, Department of Management Sciences). He completed his PhD in Computer Science under the supervision of Karon MacLean (2016, University of British Columbia, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) D) and holds an MSc (2012, University of British Columbia, NSERC CGS M) and BSc Honours (2010, University of Saskatchewan). From 2017-2018, Oliver was a Postdoctoral Scholar with Patrick Baudisch at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam, Germany, partially supported by a Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada Postdoctoral Fellowship (NSERC PDF). Oliver has also collaborated with Disney Research on novel haptic interactions as an intern and then consultant. Oliver’s work has been published in venues including Association of Computational Machinery (ACM) Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) and Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology (UIST); Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Haptics Symposium, EuroHaptics, and World Haptics; and the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies (IJHCS).

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
