The University of Waterloo

The University of Waterloo is consistently ranked as one of the top engineering and computer science schools in the world, and is the largest engineering school in Canada.

Prof. Schneider is appointed in the Faculty of Engineering, with a home appointment in the Department of Management Sciences, a combination of industrial engineering, computer science, data analytics, and psychology that features Human-Computer Interaction as a required course. Prof. Schneider is cross-appointed with Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science. The Haptic Computing Lab is part of Waterloo HCI and affiliated with two highly-interdisciplinary research institutes: the Games Institute, and the Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology.

Undergraduate Opportunities

You can get involved with the HX Lab as part of your undergraduate studies - often conducting hands-on research leading to paper publications.

URAs

The HX Lab offers a small number Undergraduate Research Assistantships (URAs) during study terms. You will be able to lead a small research or development project, often in a team or with a graduate student mentor. Due to high demand and limited availability for these positions, please apply early - e.g., ~1 month before term begins.

Co-op and USRA Positions

The HX Lab sometimes hires undergraduate students for a full-time, term-long research experience. This can count as a co-op term, and may include additional funding from an Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA). If you are interested in a full-term research experience, please contact Prof. Schneider to discover available projects - or pitch your own!
