Professor Chaudhuri, Co-Director for the Centre for Intelligent Antenna and Radio Systems explains how a world-class facility at Waterloo is designed to completely absorb reflections of sound and electromagnetic wave. Watch more videos about Waterloo Engineering research.
The Master of Applied Science (MASc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs focus on original engineering research. You’ll benefit from some of Canada’s largest and best-equipped facilities, including the Giga-to-Nanoelectronics Centre, High Voltage Engineering Lab, and an anechoic chamber.
The Master of Engineering (MEng) program will specialize your knowledge, with courses that focus on theoretical information, as well as analysis and design skills for industrial systems. You also have the option to pursue one of four Graduate Diplomas as part of your MEng program.
The Master of Engineering (MEng) and Graduate Diploma (GDip) programs in Electric Power Engineering provide state-of-the-art training, skill development, and education for power engineering personnel. This online program is an initiative from Waterloo's Power and Energy Systems Group, and receives support from Hydro One Networks Inc.

Application deadlines
The deadlines below are those for a complete application package, meaning all required documents have been uploaded. We encourage you to begin your application at least two weeks prior to these deadlines so your referees have enough time to submit their references for you, and so you can upload your supporting documents on time.
Application submission is currently open for the following start dates:
Start date |
Complete your application by |
---|---|
Fall 2019 (September 1, 2019) | CLOSED (see decision timelines) |
Winter 2020 (January 1, 2020) | June 1, 2019 |
Spring 2020 (May 1, 2020) | October 1, 2019 |
Fall 2020 (September 1, 2020) | TBD |
Admission to this program is extremely competitive. Applicants were strongly encouraged to complete their application package by January 11, 2019 for priority consideration. The final deadline for a completed Fall 2019 application package was February 1, 2019.
We recommend that you upload your supporting documents within two (2) weeks of receiving your Waterloo ID Number so we can begin reviewing your application package. Admission decisions are not made on a first-come first-served basis, however we do not wait until the above deadlines to start reviewing completed application packages.
Finding a supervisor
Every MASc applicant must be accepted as a candidate under the supervision of an Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty member in order to be recommended for admission. Applicants are not required to have a supervisor at the time of application.
Before submitting your application, we encourage you to spend time reviewing the profiles of our faculty members within your proposed area(s) of specialization to determine which faculty members are a good fit for your proposed research, and to familiarize yourself with their work.
When completing your application form, we recommend that you list the faculty members you are interested in having as a potential supervisor in the "Potential Supervisors" field on the application form. Electrical and Computer Engineering does not require you to communicate with a faculty member in order to list their name as a potential supervisor.
Once you have submitted a complete application package, contact potential academic supervisors conducting research in your area(s) of specialization. You are not limited to contacting only those you have listed on your application. It is your responsibility bring your performance and record to the attention of those faculty members under whom you would like to work.
