On 7 November 2023, the University of Waterloo hosted valued partner the University of Strathclyde for a senior leadership visit.
The incoming delegation, led by Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Sir Jim McDonald, consisted of Deans from three of Strathclyde’s Faculties, as well as leadership from internationalization, commercialization, and secretary parts of the university.
An overview presentation led by Waterloo International and a leadership conversation started the day. This was followed by a session reviewing the two universities’ convening work in engaging global leaders in a conversation on the role of higher education for impact.
At a lunch hosted by Waterloo Vice-Chancellor and President, Dr. Vivek Goel, representatives from across the University of Waterloo’s six Faculties had the opportunity to engage with their Strathclyde peers, reviewing past collaborative activities, including the Virtual Research Colloquium from 2020, and the Transatlantic Funding Call from 2021-22, as well as exploring potential for work going forward.
Specially-curated meetings, roundtables, and tours allowed bilateral discussions, initiated over lunch, to continue into the afternoon. Parallel discussions in multiple locations across the University of Waterloo campus covered a range of learning, research, and community issues.
The visit finished with a visit to Velocity in Kitchener.
