GIS Speed Run Sessions (Fall 2026)
Curious about GIS but not sure where to start—or looking to sharpen specific skills quickly? The Online GIS Speed Run workshop series offers short, focused sessions designed to introduce key geospatial concepts and tools without a long time commitment. Topics range from GIS fundamentals and open data to map design and essential analysis techniques. Sessions are ideal for beginners as well as those looking for a refresher or targeted skill boost. Getting Started with GIS - Oct 5 4:30-6:00pm - E2 1717
This tutorial is designed to introduce you to the basics of GIS and how people use it to visualize and interpret geospatial data. GIS enhances our understanding of the world, and this tutorial will illustrate the depth of information contained in each layer and how that information can be accessed and understood using Esri ArcGIS Pro. Network Analyst: Service Area Primer - Nov 2nd (part 1) and Nov 3rd (part 2) 5:30-7:00pm
This workshop is an exploration of ESRI ArcPro's Network Analyst Service Area tool.
Part 1 will be looking at accessibility to constructed ION stops, understanding, manipulating and creating a new Network Dataset from existing road lines, solving distance cutoff's and analyzing issues that can arise from just using one variable, like length.
Part 2 will be looking into adjusting the Network Dataset to solve for Time, Speed, Distance questions (e.g. creating walking times) and how to use restrictions for truer to life modelling. 2021 Census for average Age will be added to the analysis to see what age is best served by the different walking times to the various ION stops.
