Data and Open Access

Every October Open Access Week (OAW) is celebrated by universities and organizations around the world. OAW serves as an opportunity for academic and research communities to come together to not only recognize open access as it exists today, but to learn about the benefits of increasing open access across academic research.

The Libraries are terminating their subscription for RefWorks as of December 31, 2024. All RefWorks users will have to transfer their references to another citation management tool before December 31, 2024 or lose access.

The Libraries launched institutional storage to the citation manager, Zotero, last year and has been providing workshops and expert guidance to researchers making the shift.

The day after reflecting on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, participants gathered at the Dana Porter Library to discuss Jo Chrona’s Wayi Wah! Indigenous Pedagogies: An Act for Reconciliation.

As part of a national consortium of libraries, the Libraries work to further the goal of expanding access to research through sustainable models. Our Libraries currently have 11 open access (OA) agreements with academic publishers that allow members of the University of Waterloo community to publish fee-free.

We’re excited to share a new brand, celebrating the Libraries' position as a partner in the learning and research that happens at Waterloo.

The Libraries are at the heart of the University; they provide access to distinctive collections, services and resources to everyone in the campus community and beyond.

In March 2024 the Libraries launched a user survey, asking members of the University of Waterloo community to share their feedback on how satisfied they are with the services, resources and expertise provided by the Libraries, and which ones are most important to reaching their goals.
