Parchment. 290x213, 190 fols, two columns at 39 lines, written in Paris in 1353. Beginning of the second folio: Lors pris l'aguille a enfiler. It contains the Roman de la rose fols 1-160v and the Testament on fols 161r-190v.

Frame:
Gilded outer border with red inner border with white wavy details on the right and left, and white spiral details on the top and bottom. There is a secondary inner frame consisting of three bars: blue, white and red in irregular pattern. Gold leaf filling between outer and inner frame.
 
Background:
Diaper pattern background. Square grid with alternating gold, blue and red squares with fine white detail that creates a secondary diagonal grid.

Gestures:
Husband's right hand is raised over his head ready to strike his wife. His left hand is grasping her hair. His wife is crouched on the ground; her arms and hands are outstretched as though she is trying to flee.

  1. Beneath the last explicit, some lines in a more modern hand have been erased.

  3. The Bibliothèque de Genève received this manuscript in 1742 from Am. Lullin who had bought it from the heirs of A. Petau.
