Detailed manuscript information (based on Ernest Langlois, Les manuscrits du Roman de la rose. Description et classement, Geneva: Slatkine Reprints, 1974, p. 85):

Parchment, measure: 302x217mm, 155 fols, two columns at 38 lines. Beginning of second folio: Lors de ville ou talant d'aler. The manuscript contains the Roman de la rose. At the end, the following lines have been added:

  • Explicit le Romans de la Rose,
    Ou l'Art d'Amours est toute enclose.
    Nature rit, si com moy semble,
    Quant hic et hec joingnent ensemble.

Initials:
Below the miniature, gold leaf foliate initial "C" with red and blue inner foliates. Foliate extenders spring upwards and downwards from the initial, framing the miniature and the text.

Frame:
Around the miniature, gold leaf simple exterior frame with gold leaf corner pieces. The interior frame is thick and has a wavy pattern with decorative details in blue on the left and right side of the frame, and in red on the top and bottom.

Background:
Red, blue and white diaper pattern (checkerboard pattern with stars).

Placement of miniature:
Directly before the God of Love puts a chasuble on Genius.

Gestures:

The God of Love is standing, helping Genius to put on his chasuble. Genius is bent over, getting the chasuble over his head. His hands are stretched forward and his face cannot be seen.
