Thursday, December 3, 2015

Congratulations to Sheila McConnell for receiving this year’s Arts Service Award! This award recognizes staff, faculty, and students for an “exceptional level of commitment” and an “impact that goes substantially beyond the usual standard of excellent client services”.

Sheila with President, Feridun Hamdullahpur

The award was presented to Sheila at the fall Celebration of Arts reception, where Associate Dean, Kathy Acheson, praised Sheila’s service, not only to the Master of Public Service program, but to the Faculty of Arts and the broader university community.

Acheson commented on Sheila’s communication skills, citing a time that she demonstrated excellent tact and diplomacy to explain and diffuse a difficult situation. Before presenting the award, Acheson concluded by sharing some comments from Daniel Henstra, MPS instructor and former director, who nominated Sheila for the award. He wrote,

Every year, graduates tell us that their positive interaction with Sheila in the recruitment stage was a significant factor in their decision to attend Waterloo, and that her support was invaluable to their success in the program.”

This award is well-deserved and we are so proud of you, Sheila! The MPS community is truly grateful for your dedication and hard work. Thank you for being the most amazing MPS Program Officer.
