Julie Tournet

Alumni, Former MASc Student
Julie Tournet

Julie Tournet is a Senior Lecturer/Researcher and R&D Manager at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. She earned her MASc in Electrical Engineering (Nanotechnology) under the supervision of Professor Zbig Wasilewski in 2015 and was the first student of the QNC-MBE Lab. She completed her BSc in Physics and Engineering in Europe, studying in Paris, Brest, and Barcelona.

Julie’s master’s research focused on optimizing the cleaning and preparation of silicon substrates, the epitaxial growth of Al/Si heterostructures, and their characterization. The structures serve as a base material for the design of superconducting microwave coplanar waveguide resonators of high-quality factor for applications in quantum computing. This project is a collaboration between the Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) lab and the Digital Quantum Matter (DQM) lab in the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC). Other research interests include computational nano-electronics and astronomy.

Julie is originally from Reunion Island, a beautiful French island located east of Madagascar. She also loves travelling, learning new languages and doing a lot of sports!
