Whether adapting an existing OER, transitioning your course materials into the Open, or creating an OER from scratch, you will likely be using materials created by others. Because Open doesn't just apply to the finished resource but all of the elements within the resource, it is important to ensure that everything you include in your OER respects licensing requirements. In this session, we will walk you through some strategies for finding open content to adapt or include within your learning resources, as well as best practices for attribution.

Would you like to learn more about open education and open educational resources but don’t know where to start? This introductory workshop is for you.

This session will provide an overview of the open education movement including what it is and why it matters. This session will cover:

There will be an Institutional Research Data Management (RDM) Strategy town hall Monday, November 21. The draft strategy will be presented. It has been prepared in response to the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy. 

The Open Library at eCampusOntario has announced a series of virtual lunch and learns (12–1pm) focused on adopting openly licensed materials in their collection.

Drop-In Sessions (Q&A regarding the Open Library, associated platforms and services, and OER)

Open Education Week runs March 6 – 10, 2023. The Open Scholarship Committee is planning several events throughout the week to profile OE projects at Waterloo, promote the open community, and highlight support that is available for the creation, adoption, and adaptation of open educational resources. These events include live presentations as well as Daily Bulletin articles. A schedule of events will be posted here: Open Education Week 2023.
