Finding open access content


  • Directory of Open Access Journals: DOAJ is a community-curated online directory that indexes - and provides access to - high-quality, peer-reviewed Open Access journals.
  • Searchable subject repositories:
  • Browser extensions (Chrome and Firefox): will try to find an Open Access version of paywalled articles, by searching for an article's digital object identifier (DOI), which can look like this:
    • Unpaywall: searches oaDOI, an index of Open Access content
    • Open Access Button: searches oaDOI, along with other sources, and allows you to request an article if an Open Access version is unavailable
