How can I make the most of my first year in UW as a health studies student? How can I have better co-op terms?

We encourage you (and co-op students from any program) to get involved with your faculty, focus on your studies and plan ahead for your first co-op work term!

To help you prepare for your first co-op term, our team of Career Advisors at the Centre for Career Action (CCA) have created a resource to help students enhance their skills over the summer months. Check out their “skill up this spring term” webpage for job search tips and an overview of the services provided by the CCA for all UWaterloo students.

In addition, you can:

  • Connect with your assigned co-op advisor for answers to any questions related to co-op. Whether you’re searching for a job or on a work term, you’ll always be assigned to a co-op advisor who is there to support you!

  • Access appointments and workshops offered through the Centre for Career ActionAttend other online workshops offered through the Centre for Career Action (see here for a full list).

  • Develop skills to help you transition to a digital workplace through accessing online courses, webinar series and resources provided by UWaterloo!

  • Book a phone or webcam appointment with a career advisor who can help you with your work search, networking strategy, self-introduction and application documents.

  • Tap into your personal network: think about who you know (and who they might know) to see if anyone is looking to hire in the near future. This can help you to build your personal network and employability skills to help you find your first co-op job!
