I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Actuarial Science at the Univesrity of Waterloo. My research interests include ways to design, train and test machine learning algorithms that mitigate unfair treatment to protected groups, particularly in the finance and insurance industry. My supervisors are Mary Hardy and Paul Marriott.

Before coming to Canada, I received my undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science with first-class honors in Mexico City. I worked over a year as a statistical analyst at Accenture Analytics and then as a financial analyst at H+ Group. Then, moved to Montreal for my Master's degree in Mathematics under the supervision of Dr. Frédéric Godin and Dr. Mélina Mailhot. During my stay in Montreal I worked as a research intern at Eckler Ltd for almost 10 months, a partnership that yielded my thesis which was presented at the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) Annual Meeting of 2019 in Calgary, AB and at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) in Montreal, QC.
