I'm an Actuarial Analyst at Intact Insurance in Toronto, I graduated with a Ph.D. in Actuarial Science from the Univesrity of Waterloo under the joint supervision of Dr. Mary Hardy (actuarial science) and Dr. Paul Marriott (statistics). I started the program in September 2019 and I successfully defended my thesis in March 2023. My doctoral dissertation promotes fairness, efficiency and transparency by measuring the discriminatory consequences that arise from errors in the design and implementation of pricing algorithms. To achieve this, I developed an expertise in causal inference and, have sharpen my abilities as a data scientist. My Ph.D. work involved using both R and Python on a daily basis.

A brief background

I received my undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science with first-class honors in Mexico City in 2016. I worked for a brief time as a statistical analyst at Accenture Analytics, and for a year as a financial analyst at H+ Group. Then, I moved to Montreal in Canada to obtain my Master's degree in Mathematics (2017-2019) under the supervision of Dr. Frédéric Godin and Dr. Mélina Mailhot. During these two years, I worked as a research intern at Eckler Ltd, an actuarial consulting firm, for almost 10 months. This partnership yielded my Master's Thesis which was presented at the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) Annual Meeting of 2019 in Calgary, AB and at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) in Montreal, QC.
