Traditional source water protection approaches are ineffective for mitigating the potentially devastating effects of landscape disturbances such as wildfires, hurricanes, and floods. A diverse group of researchers, industries, and government agencies is tackling these challenges with forest management-based technologies—green infrastructure—to ensure water security.

Southern Rockies Watershed Project

This group is advancing the connections between the hydro-climatic, biogeochemical and ecological factors regulating key headwaters regions in Alberta, Canada and linking them to the condition of downstream water resources and impacts on municipal drinking water treatment.

The Water Economics, Policy and Governance Network (WEPGN) brings together researchers and partners to share ideas, identify challenges, and develop new knowledge to improve the management of water resources in Canada and abroad.

This group aims to synthesize knowledge, provide guidance and encourage collaborative research to improve Europe’s capacity to use payments for ecosystem services (PES) to achieve EU water policy objectives through incentives for planting woodlands.
