Abstract:

Magnetic levitation has found a place in several fields like energy harvesting, micro-robotics, transportation etc. The work conducted here tries to determine the viability of the concept for the field of additive manufacturing. Conventionally, additive manufacturing has heavily relied on the use of a substrate that serves as the plane of material addition. This also results in the restriction in the planes of material addition. Through the use of magnetic levitation, the need for the use of a substrate is by-passed. In addition, multiple material jets can be used in conjunction with one another to decrease fabrication time.
