I am a social and human ecologist conducting socio-metabolic research on small islands for sustainability. I track material and energy flows through island systems: what and how much resources are locally produced, imported, transformed, used, stocked and discarded. My research aims to inform science and policy on ways small islands can build system resilience through greater resource security, self-reliance, and stimulate sustainable and inclusive development. I have conducted extensive research in the Nicobar Islands (India), Samothraki (Greece), and in several Caribbean nations. I am the co-founder and lead of the research program Metabolism of Islands.
