I grew up in Iran and came to enjoy Canada and its welcoming, fostering, and highly motivating society. I am a rhetorician, currently teaching at the University of Waterloo. My research is on Aural Rhetoric, Visual Rhetoric, and Sequential Rhetoric, centred on Cinema and Literature of the so-called “Culture of Anxiety,” alternatively termed as “Culture of Fear.” I have enjoyed the best of my days at the university, either as a student or instructor.
I am interested in how cinema and literature use various modes of expression to give persuasive treatments of a societies ambitions, concerns, and anxieties. In the realm of science and technology, I investigate cognitive-rhetorical aspects of science and technology transfer between experts-experts and experts-citizens. My current research and teaching are influenced by my Masters and PhD research, re-shaped for new exploration and extension on my former work.
I have taught on Rhetorical Criticism, Literary Theory, Academic Writing, Communication for Academic and Business purposes, Science Communication.
I am open to collaborative research in rhetoric, pedagogy, cinema and literature, especially in an American context.
